Welcome
to Hula-Cow Studios' Microphone boutique
Please enjoy perusing our selection of microphones, available to be custom
built for you.
If you're more of an engineer, yourself, we also have the base PCBs available
for you to build your own.
The Originals:
The Lei
The Luau
The Kahuna
Classic sound, tiny package
This pretty little mic packs classic sound, reminiscent of the
venerable U87 into a tiny, robust package.
Options include attenuation pad, EQ/brightness change switch,
or Hi-Pass filter.
We recommend limiting customizations of this to two optional switches,
maximum. We have built them with three, but due to the small size
of the body, switch placement becomes irregular.
A little bit of everything
The classic circuit in a mid-sized mic body.
We recommend limiting optional switches to one, on this one, due
to the slim nature of the casing.
The workhorse.
This microphone can accommodate all options, and is reminiscent
of the style and quality of trusted industry standard studio mics.
No fluff. The Kahuna is the big boy. If you want a certain switch
placement, let us know, and we'll be happy to make it happen.
The Modded Series::
The MaiTai
The Moo Lagoon
The Margarita
A reworking of the Lei with a different FET, and a few circuit
mods.
Has the same options as the Lei, for add-ons.
NOTE: Even without the attenuation pad installed,
the MaiTai will have a slightly quieter output than the Lei without
one. Or the same as the Lei with one. The resistor rails of the
H-pad are built into this circuit premanently, along with a couple
other tweaks, resulting in a pleasant, quieter, warmer, more fluffy
sound.
We recommend limiting customizations of this to
two optional switches, maximum. We have built them with three,
but due to the small size of the body, switch placement becomes
irregular.
MaiTai X Luau
The Luau, reworked with the MaiTai mods.
(Three switch configuration is not possible on this build.)
Options on this one include attenuation pad (recommended
-10dB but available in -5, -10, -15 and -20), EQ/brightness change
switch, or Hi-Pass filter.
Relaxing Sound
It's The Kahuna with the MaiTai mods
This microphone can accommodate all options, and is a great choice
if you want a slightly more mellow, inviting tone.
All switch options are available on this mic.

The Boards
Lei
Luau/Kahuna
Daughterboard
The
Lei is NOT for beginners. It's a tiny mic and the components go
on both sides of a very small board. It's a very rewarding build,
but a very difficult build. Recommend experts only. Daughterboards
must be detached carefully from this board.

for correct turn ratio.)

This
lets you add on the switch options to the Kahuna/Luau. Note that
there's also an option to buy the daughterboards WITH the Luau/Kahuna.
This is juust a replacement board for people who either changed
their mind about not wanting to, or had a bit of an incident while
building the last one.
